About Us

Nilam Ethno Development Trust

Nilam is an initiative that seeks to recognise and restore value in what conventional systems have overlooked, beginning with indigenous cattle and extending to the communities, knowledge, skills and ecosystems connected to them.

Nilam is only one expression of a larger vision,

“to restore value to what conventional systems consider marginal or discarded.”

Some Forms of Knowledge Do Not Exist in Books. They Live in Practice

  • In the way an animal is cared for.
  • In the way land is worked.
  • In the way food is grown.
  • In the way materials are used.
  • In the way communities understand seasons, animals and resources.

Much of this knowledge has been carried quietly through generations. Some of it is at risk of being forgotten.
